Guardians of the Galaxy Review Roundup: Can Chris Pratt and His Crew Save the Summer Box Office? | E! Online
Marvel The Chicago Tribune 's Michael Phillips praises Pratt's controversial casting. "There are moments in Guardians of the Galaxy when Pratt, so funny on Parks and Recreation and already a versatile screen actor (Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty), seems to be growing into a quirky action hero before our eyes, the way Robert Downey Jr. did in the first and best Iron Man," he writes. "The material is right for him." Guardians of the Galaxy earns an A- from Entertainment Weekly 's Chris Nashawaty, who calls the movie "a giddily subversive space opera that runs on self-aware smart-assery." What's the click here best part of the flick? "The genius of Gunn's superhero send-up is its cheeky, anything-goes absurdity," he explains. NEWS: Get your first look at Chris Pratt in Jurassic World Twitter Variety 's Scott Foundas is a bit more skeptical about the movie's chances at the box office, writing, "While these Guardians seem unlikely to challenge the box office benchmarks set by their Marvel brethren, this inaugural outing should nevertheless inject some much-needed life into Hollywood's sagging summer fortunes." Foundas continues, "The adventures here comprise a fairly standard set of Saturday-serial cliffhangers and hairsbreadth escapes, and Gunn puts them across with a B-movie savoir faire that keeps Guardians from ever getting too high on the hog or too bogged down in its own mythmaking. Even when we arrive at the requisite CG-enhanced scenes of competing entities zipping and zapping each other with waves of electromagnetic energy, the movie retains a welcome lightness of touch, as if to say, 'Yes, the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, but what else is new?'" "Guardians has a little more space for irony, goofiness, and sarcasm than the other Marvel movies, which Gunn and co-screenwriter Nicole Perlman relish in exploring with great one-liners and running gags," James Rocchi of The Wrap writes. Whether it becomes a blockbuster is up for debate. "Guardians of the Galaxy will hardly stall or stop concerns that Marvel's riding a soon-to-pop bubble that can't last forever," he explains, "but it still has enough scrappy heart and smart humor to make it seem like the best possible kind of product, one where the talent of all involved makes it easy to enjoy their hustle." When was the last time you looked at a billboard ? I universal studios vacation mean really looked? Ever spot a facet of one that you missed at first glance? Something that made it pop?
When it comes to Disney theme park billboards, bet you didn?t realize all that?s entailed into making them so exceptional, filled with sly references and artfully hidden gems. Well, those creative whizzes at Disney?s Yellow Shoes Creative Group know how to ensure they don?t just look amazing and enticing, but also tell a story. But why go the extra mile? ?We hope to remind guests of how much fun they had on the attractions or that they create a sense of anticipation to want to go on them if they haven?t,? explains Yellow Shoes Senior Art Director Steve Carsella. ?Having all the details in the billboards is in line with a Disney theme park experience by adding something special wherever you look.?
For instance, on one of the latest Expedition Everest billboards, subtle yet oh-so-clever tidbits include the Yeti?s footprints in what looks like random texture in the snow, an authentic Tibetan carving embedded in the ?T? in the word ?EVEREST? and the Yeti?s shadow disguised as a rock cropping. Meanwhile, a new Twilight Zone Tower of Terror board includes a falling brick that is actually an old-timey radio that?s a prop from the attraction?s queue and a Hidden Mickey stamped on another brick. When designing and implementing billboards, there are general creative tenets that are taken into consideration, of course. Does it accurately depict the attraction? Is it readable? Does it feel cinematic? Are there strong details that don?t impede the message? But it takes that Disney magic of adding just enough originality and ingenuity that assures they are always surprising, dynamic and uncommon. ?I think it follows in the steps of Walt himself to pay attention to the details and to offer our guests something out of the ordinary,? Steve says. So now that you know, maybe next time you?ll take the time to appreciate all the thought and effort that go into Disney billboards. Just wait until it?s safe to check them out! Travis Allen credits the insight and encouragement he received from a LIFE Leadership convention he attended in Ohio with helping to move his company forward. Says Allen, LIFE leadership has been the fuel to our vehicle, and its what kept us going, motivated and inspired to change the world. Its us in the trenches; were the ones doing the work. But its so vital that we have that support and constant fuel to keep us excited and energized to change the world. One of the products that Allen says benefited him greatly is the Mental Fitness Challenge (MFC) created by LIFE Leadership cofounders Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady to help participants grow and improve in thirteen key areas of life set forth in Woodwards acclaimed book RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE . Through this all-encompassing three-month subscription, clients receive access to an interactive website, a self-assessment test, ninety days worth of worksheets, audios, videos, and books written by Woodward and Brady, and so much more. Among the bestselling books included is a copy of Bradys and Woodwards Launching a Leadership Revolution , which is one of Traviss favorites. He equates the foundational principles put in place for iSchool with the teaching found in this informative guide to increasing leadership effectiveness. Now, Travis is taking his teachings from LIFE Leadership and his continually growing business prowess and sharing his wisdom at a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence educator conference held at Walt Disney World Resort, FL, June 23 25, 2014, as part of the Disney Youth Education Series. Hugo Carvajal, a former head of Venezuelan military intelligence and close confidant of the late president Hugo Chavez, was arrested upon arriving at Aruba's airport, officials said Thursday. U.S. authorities allege he's one of several high-ranking Venezuelan military and law enforcement officials who provided a haven to major drug traffickers from neighboring Colombia and helped them export large amounts of U.S. bound cocaine through Venezuela. Carvajal's surprise arrest is casting a spotlight on what's known universal studios packages in Venezuela as the "Cartel of the Suns," referring to rogue, high-ranking military officers believed to have grown rich from drug-running. Top Venezuelan officers wear sun insignia on their uniforms. Together with the unsealing Thursday of a drug indictment against two other Venezuelan officials, Carvajal's arrest is likely to ratchet up tensions between the U.S. <br>For the original version including any supplementary images or video, visit Venezuela official seeks immunity in Aruba ruling - Yahoo News
